To help build community in my classroom, I have students take turns being our "Star of the Week." During the week that a student is our "Star," their All About Me poster and photos will hang in the hallway to honor him or her.
"Star of the Week" is also a way for students in the class to learn more about each other and each other's families. As you will see, parents will help complete many of the "Star of the Week" activities. Here is what you can look forward to when your child is Star of the Week: September homework: Complete the "All About Me" poster and send in 5 photos of your child and family by September 19th. I'll keep the poster and photos safe until it's your child's turn to be the Star of the Week. Friday before the "Star of the Week" begins: A bag will come home with our class giraffe and a Travel Log to journal about your adventures. Weekend: Your child will enjoy having the giraffe (name TBD) tag along on the weekend adventures. Complete "____'s Travel Log" over the weekend. Monday or Tuesday: Return the Star of the Week bag, with the giraffe and the travel log completed. Monday-Friday: The poster and photos hang in the hallway so that everyone at Lyon will get to know more about your child. Friday: Your child will present the "All About Me" poster, photos, and the Travel Log to the class. We'll all do a special cheer for the Star of the Week, too. |
